There’s something wonderfully nostalgic about sitting together with a good poem and a cuppa, isn’t there? Our June Shared Reading session at Abbeyfield Lear House was all about just that – taking a trip down memory lane.
Anne led us through a series of poems themed around childhood. It’s amazing how a few carefully chosen words can unlock so many stories. Laughter bubbled up as we remembered the games we used to play in the street; songs we’d sing at school and the mischief we got up to. There were tales of skipping ropes, secret dens and the freedom to roam until the streetlights flicked on.

For some, the poems brought back memories of growing up on the Wirral, others spoke about their first day at school or the games they’d play in the garden. It’s moments like this that make Abbeyfield Lear House such a warm and welcoming Residential Care Home. We believe that the Highest Quality Care comes with opportunities to reminisce, laugh and feel truly heard.
There’s real power in a simple Shared Reading session. Not only does it brighten up an afternoon, but it gives everyone a voice and a chance to connect. It’s why adaptable care, like this, sits right at the heart of our approach here on the Wirral. Whether you’re with us for respite care, replacement care or long-term support, you’ll find plenty of opportunities to join in, share your stories and build new ones too.

We can’t wait for our next gathering with Anne. Who knows what memories we’ll uncover next time? Until then, we’ll keep the kettle on, the conversation flowing and the sense of community stronger than ever.
