At Abbeyfield Lear House we’re never short of creativity but Celia’s latest Crafternoon took things to a whole new level. If you’ve ever tried to draw a friend while they’re pulling faces at you, you’ll know exactly what we mean.

This month Celia challenged us all to put pencil to paper and sketch not only each other but also someone or something important to us. You’d be amazed at the concentration levels in our lounge – brows furrowed, pencils tapping, heads tilted just so. And yet, the giggles were never far away.
We had our regular group of art enthusiasts plus a few new faces from around Hoylake and West Kirby who fancied giving it a go. That’s the beauty of Community-Centric Living here at Abbeyfield Hoylake & West Kirby – you’re never too old to pick up a pencil and have a bash at something new.

We ended up with portraits that ranged from impressively lifelike to wonderfully abstract. Some of our residents even drew their pets from memory – one resident’s sketch of her beloved dog Charlie was so recognisable you’d half expect him to bark.
Of course, Crafternoons like this aren’t just about drawing. They’re about connection, laughter and the pure joy that comes with trying something a bit different. It’s all part of the Adaptable Care we pride ourselves on. Whether you join us for Respite Care, Replacement Care or enjoy life as part of our Residential Care Home family, we make sure there’s always something on to keep your mind active and your heart happy.
Our lounge was buzzing with stories as we talked about the people and memories behind each sketch. It’s little moments like this that show how much our Residential Care community values Round the Clock Care that goes far beyond the basics. We believe the Highest Quality Care should include a healthy dose of fun and friendship too.

By the end of the session, we’d covered the tables in masterpieces and our walls had a new mini gallery of smiling faces and cherished memories. Celia as always was full of encouragement and praise – no harsh art critics here, just lots of clapping and maybe the odd happy tear.
So, if you’re looking for a Care Home on the Wirral that really knows how to blend creativity with care you’ll find it here at Abbeyfield Lear House. Our Community-Centric Living means every day brings a new way to laugh, learn and live well together.

Fancy seeing our sketches? Pop in for a cuppa, have a peek and maybe join us for our next Crafternoon. Just don’t be surprised if you’re asked to strike a pose – pencil at the ready
