Gentle Moves and Good Times

When Carla comes to visit there’s no such thing as a dull afternoon at Abbeyfield Hoylake & West Kirby! The residents light up and lookforward to her activities afternoons.

Our second session in July was all about keeping bodies moving and spirits high. We kicked things off with a gentle warm-up for the hands and wrists using stress balls – a great way to keep joints mobile and maintain strength. There was plenty of concentration (and a few competitive streaks!) as we worked through the exercises together.

Then came the main event – a brilliantly silly game of ‘Simon Says’ using colourful beanbags. Carla had us balancing beanbags on our heads, knees, shoulders and even feet – testing coordination, balance and memory in the most fun way possible. There were giggles galore, especially when the beanbags began sliding off and we tried to catch them mid-air.

This kind of movement-based activity might look simple, but it’s a fantastic way to support physical wellbeing while sparking laughter and social connection. It was lovely to see everyone so engaged. From the focused expressions during the balance challenges to the big smiles when we cracked the instructions (or hilariously got them wrong!).

We’re proud to offer life-enriching activities for older adults that are as joyful as they are beneficial. Sessions like this are all about bringing people together. We provide a safe and social setting for ageing well, helping everyone to stay active, feel good and have a laugh along the way.

Margaret had a lovely afternoon. We just love seeing her fabulous smile!
