Going for Gold at Our Olympic-Themed Music and Movement Session

At Abbeyfield Hoylake & West Kirby, we believe that staying active and engaged should always be enjoyable. Last month’s session with Jenna from Boogie Woogie Music, Movement & Memories brought exactly that. We had a fun and energetic Olympics-themed afternoon.

These events are part of our regular schedule of life-enriching activities for older adults. This session offered something a little different, combining music, movement and imagination to create a truly memorable experience. It is all part of our approach to supportive senior living in Wirral. Wellbeing is supported through meaningful, enjoyable moments each day.

The afternoon began with a musical journey across Europe through lively French-inspired tunes before heading to Greece for a playful round of “plate throwing”. Using paper plates of course! This light-hearted activity sparked plenty of laughter and friendly encouragement as residents gave it a go.

Keeping with the Olympic spirit, residents then had the opportunity to try a few sporting activities, including javelin throwing and gentle boxing movements. Everyone joined in at their own pace, creating a relaxed and inclusive atmosphere where participation felt natural and fun. These sessions are a great way to encourage movement while supporting confidence and coordination, all within our day-to-day care with a personal touch.

As always, music played a central role. Familiar songs filled the room, bringing residents together through rhythm, movement and shared enjoyment. There was plenty of dancing, clapping and laughter. Residents created the kind of uplifting environment that reflects our safe and social setting for ageing well.

To finish, we came together for a favourite group activity. We used the colourful parachute to encourage teamwork and connection. It was a joyful way to end the afternoon, with everyone involved and smiling.

Experiences like this are at the heart of what we offer. Our aim is to create a homely environment for later life where residents feel supported, engaged and part of a vibrant community. For families exploring local care options for families in Wirral, it is these everyday moments that provide reassurance. Our aim is to give real peace of mind for families and loved ones.

If you are looking for a welcoming care home where your loved one can enjoy independent living with a helping hand, alongside regular activities, friendly faces and personalised support, we would be delighted to hear from you.
