At Abbeyfield Hoylake & West Kirby, creativity is always in full flow – and last month’s Crafternoon session was no exception. Guided by Celia, our residents were challenged to draw their favourite song.
Can you guess the titles just from the pictures?

Armed with pencils, coloured pens and plenty of imagination, our residents got to work. The room was soon filled with a quiet buzz of concentration, bursts of laughter and some enthusiastic humming. Whether it was a classic like Daisy Daisy or a toe-tapping oldie that brought back memories of dances and radios, each drawing was as unique.

Celia brought the playlist to life as we sketched, playing the songs each person chose to inspire their artwork. There were a few sing-alongs too! After all, you can’t really draw ‘You Are My Sunshine’ without belting out the chorus, can you?
The results were brilliant. Some drawings were delicate and detailed, others bold and full of colour – but all were full of heart. You could see how much thought had gone into each one, from the careful way the pens were chosen to the way the pictures told a story.

One of the loveliest parts? Seeing residents and staff side by side, working on their artwork together and sharing memories of their favourite tunes. It was a reminder that even something as simple as an afternoon of drawing and singing can be a powerful way of connecting.
We think you’ll agree – the photos speak for themselves!

This Crafternoon was just one of the many ways we offer life-enriching activities for older adults in a safe and social setting for ageing well. It’s all part of our mission to provide a homely environment for later life, where moments of joy, connection and creativity happen every day.
Whether it’s art, music, or simply sharing a story over a cup of tea, our activities support day-to-day care with a personal touch. It’s this kind of thoughtful, inclusive approach that makes Abbeyfield Hoylake & West Kirby a place where people truly feel at home.
