Last week we celebrated Bonfire Night! The twinkle of fireworks, the cosy glow indoors and the laughter shared with friends. This year, our residents at Abbeyfield Hoylake & West Kirby enjoyed a truly lovely evening celebrating Bonfire Night at Lear House. It was full of warmth, colour and community spirit.
After a delicious buffet tea, everyone gathered in the lounge ready for the firwork display. With hot drinks and blankets, we were ready. We watched from the comfort of our cosy lounge as the sky lit up. From golden bursts to shimmering blues, each firework brought smiles and gasps of delight. It was a beautiful reminder that celebration doesn’t have to mean braving the cold! Sometimes the best views are from a warm seat surrounded by friends.

The evening was full of chatter and laughter as residents reminisced about Bonfire Nights past. We spoke of sparklers in the garden, toffee apples, and childhood memories of wrapping up in scarves and hats. These moments of shared nostalgia capture what activities for older adults are all about: creating space for joy, connection and storytelling.
Our team at Abbeyfield always ensures that celebrations like this are inclusive, safe and above all, fun. We know that supportive senior living in Wirral means more than providing care. It’s about helping residents continue to enjoy life’s little traditions, no matter the weather. Watching the fireworks through the window, with plates of food and cups of tea in hand, was a perfect reflection of that balance between comfort and celebration.

For us, evenings like this are part of what makes community-led care in Merseyside so special. It’s about coming together as a family, sharing experiences and creating new memories in a homely environment for later life. Whether it’s a grand event or a quiet gathering, we take pride in making every day feel special at Abbeyfield Hoylake & West Kirby.
As the last firework faded and the room filled with cheerful applause, it was clear that Bonfire Night had once again brought everyone together. With full hearts, we ended the evening with plenty of smiles, and perhaps just one or two extra slices of cake!
