Stitches, Stories and Smiles

Thursday mornings at Abbeyfield Hoylake & West Kirby are full of warmth, wool and wonderful conversation. Our much-loved Knit and Natter sessions with Heather continue to bring residents together for creativity, company and plenty of cheerful chatter.

These weekly gatherings are always a highlight. There’s something lovely about the rhythm of knitting that encourages stories to flow – and this month, we’ve been reminiscing about holidays past and the pets we’ve loved over the years. From beach trips with family to tales of mischievous cats and loyal dogs, there’s been no shortage of laughs and shared memories.

We’re continuing to make beautiful handmade gifts for this year’s Christmas shoeboxes, including these brightly coloured headbands – each one crafted with care and full of festive spirit. They’ll be going to children and families in need, spreading a little extra warmth this winter.

With Heather guiding the way, these sessions offer more than just a chance to create. They’re a time to relax, to connect and to feel part of something bigger – and they play a key role in our focus on life-enriching activities for older adults. It’s a perfect example of community-led care in Merseyside, where every stitch and story matters.

At Abbeyfield Hoylake & West Kirby, we believe in creating a homely environment for later life – and that includes the small joys, like the feel of soft yarn between your fingers or a cuppa shared with a friend while talking about your first dog or your favourite seaside town.

If you’re looking for friendly residential homes for older adults that combine creativity, compassion and connection, our doors are always open.
