VE Day 80th Anniversary

Last week at Abbeyfield Lear House we joined the rest of the nation in marking the 80th Anniversary of VE Day and what a lovely celebration we had. We began the day by watching the service from Westminster Abbey. It is important to us that we uphold these traditions for our residents. As midday approached we also took part in the two minute silence to pay our respects to those who served.

The whole of Abbeyfield Hoylake and West Kirby was beautifully decorated with Union Jack bunting, window stickers and placemats. As well as the room decorations we also enjoyed some wonderfully made cream filled cupcakes, topped with their own Union Jacks and bunting – perfect for a memorable VE Day celebration commemorating the 80th anniversary. Sarah, our chef pulled out all the stops for these. Our residents enjoyed their cupcakes with a lovely cup of tea surrounded by friends.

In the afternoon we continued our VE Day celebrations with music and readings from Andrew and Marko.

Our residents all gathered round with their flags and instruments as they watched and applauded our wonderful musicians. Andrew and Marko took the time to let us consider what VE Day means to us and our residents as well as enjoying some of our favourite songs and keeping spirits high. There was lots of singing and of course there was also some dancing too!

At Abbeyfield Hoylake and West Kirby we really go all out to create memorable moments for your loved ones. Keeping up tradition whilst creating friendships and a community will always be high on our agenda. Thank you to Andrew and Marko for coming to join us!
