At Abbeyfield Hoylake & West Kirby, some of our most treasured moments come from bringing generations together. Our recent crafting morning with the children from Trinity Childminding, Caroline’s Childminding and Carrie’s Tiney Home Nursery was a perfect example.
As part of our regular programme of life-enriching activities for older adults, intergenerational sessions like these play an important role. They help us to create a vibrant, engaging and emotionally enriching environment. They are a key part of our approach to community-led care in Merseyside. Meaningful connections sit at the heart of everyday life.

The Morning Itself
The morning was filled with colour, creativity and conversation as residents and children worked side by side on a range of crafts. From painting and sticking to sharing ideas and laughter. The room quickly came alive with energy and warmth. It was lovely to see natural bonds forming, with children chatting freely and residents enjoying the chance to take part in something playful and creative.
These moments are more than just activities. They support wellbeing, encourage communication and create a genuine sense of belonging. This reflects our commitment to caring for older people with dignity and respect. We ensure residents feel valued, engaged and connected to the world around them.

For many residents, spending time with children brings back fond memories and offers a refreshing sense of joy and spontaneity. It is a wonderful example of independent living with a helping hand. Helping us to ensure our residents are supported to enjoy meaningful experiences in a relaxed and inclusive setting.
