Colour, Conversation and Creativity

At Abbeyfield Hoylake & West Kirby, we believe that everyday moments can become something truly special. Our recent February Crafternoon with Celia was a perfect example of that.

As part of our ongoing programme of life-enriching activities for older adults, residents gathered together for an afternoon filled with colour, creativity and plenty of conversation. These sessions are a key part of how we deliver day-to-day care with a personal touch. We ensure every resident has opportunities to express themselves, try something new and enjoy meaningful social interaction.

Our Activity

During this month’s Crafternoon, we worked with paints and little stamping wands to design and create beautifully decorated notecards. The process was simple yet incredibly effective. We allowed residents to experiment with colours, patterns and textures in a relaxed and supportive setting. It was wonderful to see each person’s creativity come to life, with every notecard reflecting a unique style and personality.

Activities like this play an important role in supportive senior living in Wirral, offering more than just a pastime. They help support wellbeing, encourage gentle focus and provide a sense of achievement. Whether carefully selecting colours or proudly sharing finished designs, residents were fully engaged and clearly enjoying the experience.

Celia guided the session with warmth and encouragement, making sure everyone felt comfortable and included. This is at the heart of our approach to personalised care for older residents, where activities are thoughtfully delivered to suit different abilities and interests. There is never any pressure, just the opportunity to take part and enjoy the moment.

The atmosphere throughout the afternoon was relaxed and sociable, as a result reflecting the homely environment for later life that we are so proud to offer. Residents chatted, laughed and admired each other’s work. We created a real sense of community and shared enjoyment.

Why this makes a difference

Our regular activities are designed to support independent living with a helping hand, giving residents the freedom to engage in hobbies and interests while knowing support is always nearby. From creative sessions like this to music, exercise and social events. There is always something happening to keep life interesting and fulfilling.

For families exploring local care options for families in Wirral, it is these everyday experiences that truly make a difference. Knowing that loved ones are not only cared for but also actively engaged in activities. We certainly provide real peace of mind for families and loved ones.

Our February Crafternoon was a lovely reminder of how creativity can bring people together, spark joy and create lasting memories. We’re already looking forward to our next session and seeing what our residents will create next.
