From Baby Boogie to Best of British, A Joyful Week at Lear House

At Abbeyfield Hoylake & West Kirby, we love creating opportunities for residents to connect, move, reminisce and share joyful experiences together, and two recent sessions with Jenna from Boogie Woogie Music, Movement & Memories brought exactly that.

As part of our ongoing programme of life-enriching activities for older adults, Jenna’s sessions combine music, movement and reminiscence in a way that supports wellbeing while creating a warm and engaging atmosphere. From intergenerational play to nostalgic singalongs, these experiences are a wonderful example of supportive senior living in Wirral in action.

A Wonderful Start to Our Intergenerational Baby Boogie Sessions

Last Wednesday morning, we held our very first Intergenerational Baby Boogie session, and it was an instant hit with everyone involved.

The session brought together residents, babies and carers in a lively and welcoming environment filled with music, movement and sensory play. There was plenty for the children to explore, from interactive toys and colourful objects to music and movement activities designed to encourage curiosity and development.

Jenna also shared fascinating insights into how babies grow, develop and experience the world around them, sparking conversation and interest among residents. It was lovely to see the generations interacting so naturally, with smiles, laughter and gentle moments of connection throughout the morning.

These sessions are a fantastic example of community-led care in Merseyside, helping to create meaningful relationships across generations while supporting emotional wellbeing and social interaction in a safe and social setting for ageing well.

We are delighted that the sessions will continue throughout May, and we are already looking forward to welcoming everyone back again this week.

A Best of British Afternoon Full of Music and Memories

Later in the week, Jenna returned for another fabulous afternoon session, this time with a lively Best of British theme.

The room was soon filled with familiar songs and fond memories as residents revisited some iconic names from British entertainment. We remembered the wonderful Ken Dodd, complete with tickling sticks, alongside classics from Cliff Richard, The Beatles and Lita Roza, whose famous song How Much is that Doggie in the Window had everyone singing along.

There was music, dancing and plenty of laughter as residents joined in at their own pace, creating the kind of uplifting atmosphere that reflects our approach to day-to-day care with a personal touch.

To finish the afternoon, Jenna shared her beautifully put together memory boxes, filled with photographs and books celebrating Liverpool’s rich history and culture. These always prove popular, encouraging reminiscence, conversation and storytelling among residents. It is moments like these that help create a true homely environment for later life, where memories are celebrated and shared experiences continue to bring people together.

Meaningful Activities That Bring People Together

For families exploring local care options for families in Wirral, sessions like these offer real reassurance and peace of mind for families and loved ones, knowing that residents are enjoying varied, stimulating and socially enriching activities on a regular basis.

Whether it is music and movement, intergenerational connection or nostalgic reminiscence, activities at Lear House are designed to support confidence, wellbeing and enjoyment every day.

Two very different sessions, but both full of warmth, laughter and unforgettable moments.
