A Wonderful Birthday Celebration for Thelma at Lear House

Yesterday was a very special day at Abbeyfield Hoylake & West Kirby as everyone came together to celebrate Thelma’s birthday in true Lear House style.

As part of our commitment to creating a homely environment for later life, birthdays are always a chance for residents, staff and friends to come together and make lasting memories. Thelma’s special day was filled with music, laughter and meaningful moments, creating the warm and joyful atmosphere that makes life at Lear House so unique.

To help celebrate the occasion, we were delighted to welcome the fabulous Sandra Currie for another of her much-loved musical afternoons. Sandra is always a favourite with residents, bringing energy, warmth and familiar songs that encourage everyone to join in and enjoy the moment.

The afternoon featured lots of wonderful music, including one of Thelma’s favourite songs, Slow Boat to China, which brought plenty of smiles and singalongs. Music has such a powerful way of sparking memories and bringing people together. Sessions like this are an important part of our programme of life-enriching activities for older adults.

With VE Day taking place this coming Friday, Sandra also included a selection of songs to mark the occasion. The familiar wartime tunes prompted reminiscing, conversation and shared memories among residents. This created a lovely sense of connection and reflection alongside the celebrations.

These kinds of musical afternoons are a wonderful example of day-to-day care with a personal touch. We blend entertainment, reminiscence and social interaction in a way that supports emotional wellbeing and companionship. Whether residents were singing along, dancing or simply enjoying the atmosphere. Everyone had the opportunity to take part in a way that felt comfortable and enjoyable.

At Lear House, we believe meaningful experiences are a key part of supportive senior living in Wirral, helping residents feel engaged, valued and connected to those around them. Celebrations like Thelma’s birthday are not just about marking a date, they are about creating moments of happiness, togetherness and joy.

For families exploring local care options for families in Wirral, it is these shared experiences that provide genuine peace of mind for families and loved ones. Theres something so special knowing residents are part of a warm, welcoming and active community.

A huge Happy Birthday once again to Thelma. It was a lovely afternoon full of music, memories and celebration, and one we were all delighted to share with her.
