Some visitors bring music, some bring stories, and some bring a wagging tail and a whole lot of love. At Lear House, we always look forward to seeing Gwyl and Tim from Therapy Dogs Nationwide, and their visits never fail to brighten the day for residents and staff alike.

Meet Gwyl
Gwyl is a true natural when it comes to making friends. Calm, gentle and endlessly patient, Gwyl happily settles in among our residents and soaks up every bit of attention on offer. Whether it’s a stroke, a pat or simply sitting close by, Gwyl takes it all in their stride, and it’s clear the affection goes both ways.

A Welcome Visit for Everyone
It isn’t only our residents who enjoy Gwyl’s company. Staff are just as quick to stop and say hello, and the whole atmosphere in the home seems to soften when Gwyl is around. There’s something wonderfully calming about spending time with a friendly dog, and it often sparks conversation too, with residents sharing memories of dogs they have loved over the years.

About Therapy Dogs Nationwide
Tim and Gwyl visit us through Therapy Dogs Nationwide, a non-profit organisation run entirely by volunteers. Volunteers bring their own dogs into settings such as care homes to offer comfort, distraction and stimulation, and every dog is temperament assessed and insured for visiting. It’s a lovely example of how volunteers can make a real difference to people’s lives simply by sharing their time and their four-legged friends.
Thank You, Gwyl and Tim
A big thank you to Tim for giving up his time, and to Gwyl for being such a calm, patient and much-loved visitor. We can’t wait to see you both again soon.
