A Colourful Morning with Wonderful Young Visitors

At Abbeyfield Hoylake & West Kirby, we know that some of the most meaningful moments come from bringing people together, and last week’s crafting session with the children from Caroline’s Childminding and Trinity Childminding was full of exactly that kind of joy.

As part of our regular programme of life-enriching activities for older adults, intergenerational sessions play an important role in creating a warm, vibrant and engaging atmosphere within our home. They support connection, conversation and shared experiences, helping to create a true sense of community within our homely environment for later life.

The morning was filled with creativity as residents and children sat side by side enjoying a range of craft activities together. From colourful creations and shared ideas to laughter and teamwork, it was lovely to see everyone working together so naturally.

These sessions are a wonderful example of community-led care in Merseyside, where meaningful interaction between generations helps support emotional wellbeing and social connection. The children bring energy, curiosity and spontaneity, while residents enjoy the chance to share stories, encouragement and creative ideas.

Activities like this also reflect our commitment to day-to-day care with a personal touch, ensuring residents have regular opportunities to stay engaged, active and socially connected in ways that feel enjoyable and meaningful.

Throughout the morning, the room was full of conversation and smiles. Some residents focused carefully on the crafting itself, while others simply enjoyed chatting and spending time with the children. It is these shared moments that help create a safe and social setting for ageing well, where every person feels included and valued.

For families considering local care options for families in Wirral, intergenerational activities like these provide real reassurance and peace of mind for families and loved ones, knowing residents are part of a caring and connected environment filled with opportunities for meaningful engagement.

We always love welcoming the children into Lear House, and this latest crafting morning was another lovely reminder of how much joy can come from spending time together.
