Creativity in Bloom at Lear House

At Abbeyfield Hoylake & West Kirby, we believe creative activities play an important role in supporting wellbeing, confidence and connection, and last Saturday’s flower arranging session was a perfect example of that.

We would like to say a big thank you to Liz from Flowers by Elizabeth for hosting a wonderful afternoon of silk flower arranging, bringing colour, creativity and conversation into our home.

As part of our ongoing programme of life-enriching activities for older adults, sessions like this offer residents the opportunity to relax, focus and enjoy trying something creative in a supportive and welcoming environment. From selecting flowers and arranging colours to carefully placing finishing touches, everyone approached the activity with impressive concentration and enthusiasm.

The room was full of thoughtful discussion, encouragement and shared ideas as residents worked on their arrangements. It was lovely to see each person adding their own style and personality to their creations, resulting in a beautiful variety of finished displays.

Creative sessions such as these are a wonderful example of day-to-day care with a personal touch, supporting emotional wellbeing while encouraging confidence, self-expression and social interaction. Activities like flower arranging also help create a calm and mindful atmosphere, contributing to the homely environment for later life that we are proud to provide.

Liz guided the session with warmth and patience, ensuring everyone felt comfortable and included. Her friendly approach reflects the kind of community-led care in Merseyside that we value so highly, bringing local people and residents together through meaningful shared experiences.

The finished arrangements looked absolutely beautiful, and there was a real sense of pride among residents as they admired each other’s work. It was another reminder that creativity has a wonderful way of bringing people together and sparking conversation, laughter and connection.

For families exploring local care options for families in Wirral, activities like this help demonstrate the vibrant and engaging lifestyle available at Lear House. Alongside high-quality support and personalised care for older residents, we aim to create a safe and social setting for ageing well, where residents can continue enjoying hobbies, interests and new experiences.

A huge thank you once again to Liz for such a fabulous afternoon. We are already looking forward to the next creative session.
