Last week, Lear House welcomed back one of our residents’ favourite visitors — The Owl Man, returning with an armful of feathers and, this time, a little fur too.
Familiar Faces Take Flight Again
Sam and Pablo, the two owls who charmed residents on their first visit, made a welcome return to Lear House. There’s something wonderful about a familiar face — or in this case, a familiar pair of wings — and residents lit up recognising the pair from their previous visit. Watching Sam and Pablo perch, blink slowly, and turn their heads with that unmistakable owl curiosity brought smiles all around the room, with residents eager to point out just how much they remembered from last time.
Introducing Faith and Hope
Joining the returning duo were two new faces: Faith and Hope, who were meeting our Lear House residents for the very first time. Each owl brought its own personality and quirks to the session, giving residents the chance to compare and contrast their new feathered friends with the familiar favourites — spotting differences in size, colouring, and temperament, and asking The Owl Man question after question about where each bird had come from.
A Surprise Guest: Chrissy the Skunk
The real surprise of the afternoon, though, came on four legs rather than two wings. Chrissy the skunk made her Lear House debut, giving residents a rare chance to get up close with an animal most had never encountered before. Gentle, inquisitive, and clearly a natural at working a room, Chrissy proved just as popular as her feathered companions — and gave everyone plenty to talk about for the rest of the day.

Animal encounters like these offer far more than an entertaining afternoon. For residents, moments of connection with animals — whether it’s the quiet stillness of holding an owl or the tactile delight of meeting a skunk — can spark memories, encourage conversation, and bring genuine joy and calm.
