A Weekly Highlight
We always love seeing Gwyll and Tim from Therapy Dogs Nationwide, and their visits are always one of the highlights of the week here. There’s something truly special about the connection between our residents and a friendly, gentle dog, and Gwyll never fails to bring smiles to every face in the room the moment he trots through the door.
One-on-One Time with Every Resident
Tim does a wonderful job guiding Gwyll around to meet each resident in turn, giving everyone the chance to say hello, have a stroke and a chat, and enjoy a little bit of one-on-one time. For many of our residents, spending time with a dog brings back fond memories of pets they’ve owned and loved over the years, and it’s lovely to see those stories and memories come flooding back during the visit.
Gwyll Loves the Attention
Gwyll himself is clearly just as happy to be here as we are to have him. He works his way patiently around the room, sitting calmly beside each person, resting his head on laps for a fuss, and soaking up every bit of the attention he gets from everyone. It’s fair to say he’s just as popular with the staff as he is with the residents!
More Than Just a Smile
Visits like these do so much more than bring a smile in the moment. Time spent with a calm, friendly dog like Gwyll has been shown to help lift mood, ease anxiety and encourage conversation, and the benefits often last well beyond the visit itself, giving residents something happy to talk about for days afterwards. We’re always so grateful to Gwyll and Tim, and to Therapy Dogs Nationwide, for the joy they bring, and we can’t wait to welcome them both back again soon.
