It’s Always a Fabulous Afternoon with Andrew and Marko!

Some visits are looked forward to more than most at Lear House, and an afternoon with Andrew and Marko is right at the top of the list. Their latest visit was every bit as fabulous as we have come to expect, with a great selection of music and poetry, lots of joining in from our residents, and even a spot of dancing too.

A Great Selection of Music and Poetry

Andrew and Marko have a real knack for putting together just the right mix for our residents. Familiar songs got everyone in the mood from the start, and the poetry brought a lovely change of pace, giving everyone a moment to sit back, listen and enjoy the words.

Poetry has become a much-loved part of their recent visits. Pairing it with music gives the afternoon a gentle rhythm of its own: lively and upbeat one moment, thoughtful and nostalgic the next.

Everyone Joining In

What really makes an Andrew and Marko afternoon special is how much everyone gets involved. There was lots of audience participation throughout, whether that meant singing along to a favourite tune, clapping in time or chiming in with a well-known line.

These are not sessions where residents simply sit and watch. Andrew and Marko invite everyone in, and the room is all the better for it.

And Of Course, Some Dancing Too!

It would not be a proper Andrew and Marko afternoon without a little dancing. With the music in full swing, a few of our residents were happy to take to the floor, adding even more fun and laughter to an already brilliant afternoon.

Why Afternoons Like This Matter

Music and poetry sessions bring so much more than entertainment. At Lear House we see the difference they make every time:

  • Connection: singing and joining in together brings residents, staff and visitors closer
  • Reminiscence: familiar songs and poems can spark happy memories and lively conversation
  • Gentle movement: dancing and clapping along keep everyone active in a relaxed, enjoyable way
  • Confidence and joy: being part of the performance, rather than just watching, makes the afternoon feel truly shared

It is exactly the kind of experience we want our residents to enjoy every week, as part of a full and varied activities programme.

A Firm Favourite on Our Activities Calendar

Andrew and Marko are regular and very welcome visitors to Lear House. If you missed them last time, you can read about their earlier visits in Another Great Afternoon with Andrew and Marko and Music, Poetry and Dancing: Another Fabulous Afternoon with Andrew and Marko.

They are part of a busy calendar of music and entertainment at the home, alongside favourites such as Sandra Currie, Popcats Music Time with Caroline, Mark Birch and the ukulele fun of The 64 N’Ukes. Between performances, residents also enjoy regular sessions including Knit and Natter and our intergenerational Boogie Baby mornings.

Thank You, Andrew and Marko!

A huge thank you to Andrew and Marko for another wonderful afternoon. Our residents always have a fabulous time with you, and we are already looking forward to the next visit.
