At Abbeyfield Hoylake & West Kirby, staying active takes many forms, from gentle exercise and games to music, movement and shared moments across generations. Two recent activity sessions captured exactly what makes our regular programme of life-enriching activities for older adults so special.
Packed with movement, laughter and connection, both sessions reflected our approach to supportive senior living in Wirral, where wellbeing and enjoyment go hand in hand.
Friday Fun with Carla, Exercise with a Playful Twist
Last Friday afternoon brought another brilliant session with Carla, combining gentle exercise and games in a way that always gets everyone moving and smiling.

As always, we started with carefully guided chair-based exercises designed to stretch, strengthen and gently wake everything up. These sessions are a valued part of our day-to-day care with a personal touch, helping residents stay mobile and confident while enjoying movement in a relaxed, social setting.
Once everyone was warmed up, it was time for the game, and that is when the competitive spirit came out. There was laughter, encouragement and plenty of playful cheering as everyone joined in. Sessions like these show how physical wellbeing can be supported in a safe and social setting for ageing well, while still being great fun.

Music, Bubbles and Books with Caroline Popcat
Then on Monday, the energy continued with a fabulous Popcat session with Caroline, joined by the children from Trinity Childminding and Caroline’s Childminding.

The room was soon full of music, movement and bubbles, with residents and children sharing songs, dancing and lots of laughter. These intergenerational sessions are a much-loved part of life here and a wonderful example of community-led care in Merseyside, bringing generations together through joyful shared experiences.

There is something incredibly uplifting about seeing young children and older residents enjoying time together. The music got everyone involved, the bubbles brought out plenty of smiles and laughter, and the atmosphere was full of warmth and spontaneity.
Then, in a lovely change of pace, the session ended with quiet time sharing books together, creating a calm and thoughtful finish to a lively morning. Those peaceful moments of reading side by side were every bit as special as the dancing.

Active Living, Shared Joy and Everyday Enrichment
Together, these two sessions highlight the variety we offer within our homely environment for later life. Whether through gentle exercise, music and movement or intergenerational activities, each event supports wellbeing, friendship and confidence.
For families exploring local care options for families in Wirral, these moments provide genuine peace of mind for families and loved ones, showing how residents can enjoy independent living with a helping hand while taking part in enriching, meaningful activities.
From Friday exercises and games to Monday music and bubbles, it was a joyful few days at Lear House and a lovely reminder that staying active can be full of fun.
If you are looking for a care home where wellbeing, companionship and engaging daily life go together naturally, we would love to welcome you for a visit.
