The 64 N’Ukes Return to Lear House for an Afternoon of Music and Laughter

There are some visitors our residents look forward to all year, and The 64 N’Ukes are firmly on that list. The group was back with us at Lear House on Thursday, and from the first chord to the final singalong the whole afternoon was full of music, laughter and plenty of joining in.

A warm welcome back

The 64 N’Ukes are a ukulele group with roots in Neston, just down the road from us here on the Wirral, and they have become firm favourites at Lear House. There is something wonderfully uplifting about a room full of ukuleles. The sound is bright and cheerful, the songs are familiar, and it takes about thirty seconds before everyone is tapping along.

You can follow the group and see where they are playing next on their Facebook page.

Fabulous music and plenty of audience participation

What makes these afternoons so special is that nobody is simply sitting and watching. The 64 N’Ukes are brilliant at drawing everyone in, and our residents joined in with the singing, the clapping and the odd bit of gentle heckling too. Familiar tunes have a lovely way of bringing memories to the surface, and it was wonderful to see residents singing along to songs they have known for decades.

Sessions like this are about far more than entertainment. Live music is one of the most powerful ways of supporting wellbeing in a care home setting. It lifts mood, encourages conversation and helps residents connect with one another and with the wider community. The buzz in the room afterwards said it all.

Already booked to come back

The good news is that we did not have to say goodbye for long. The 64 N’Ukes are already booked in for another afternoon with us later in the year, and we know our residents will be counting down to it.
